I must say it is truly an honor for me to spotlight this Women of Distinction Shanita Garrett owner of Garrett's Childcare! I have known Shanita Garrett for over 19 years. Her love for kids, people, her family and her Church family is just extraordinary. I have watched her as a single parent working, raising her son and getting her degree, to becoming a wife raising and nurturing her family and now the amazing business owner of Garrett's Childcare. God is amazing in all his ways. Shanita has such a fortitude and tenacity for not giving up when most would have with the things have come in her path.
The love and care that she exudes with the children at her daycare is just simply hands down the best. A parent couldn't ask for anyone better to care and nurture for their child(ren) while at work, school, etc.

What is your name ? What is the name of your business.
My name is Shanita Garrett and I'm the proud owner of Garrett's Childcare.
What do you think makes you successful?
Putting my complete trust in God to send the clients he would have for me to provide quality service at Garrett's Childcare. In addition, I have been an Assistant Director in several daycare centers.
What makes you unique?
I am unique because I am in a Home Licensed Christian Daycare provider that obtained a Bachelor's of Nursing Degree and a Master's of Public Administration Degree from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. I have a drive and passion for what I do. I have 20 plus years in early childhood education.
Do you have any advice for any other Moms/Women who want to run their own business?
Yes, I will advise other Moms/Women who want to run their own business to put God first and seek him for the vision for their business and obtain their professional license in their field if applicable. As the moto says "write the vision and make it plain" and watch it come to past. In addition, be prepared to put in long hours of dedication and hard work to help your business grow to it's full potential.
What do you love about your work?
I love serving my families with quality educational care and love. Being a Childcare provider is a God given talent, passion, and drive.
What do you do to take care of yourself and how do you make time to do it?
I spend time with God and my family!! I make time to spend with God ad family by setting dedicated hours aside to pray, attend church at my home church Anchored in Truth Ministries located in Edwardsville, Illinois and relax with my family. Furthermore, I close on some major holidays to go to my hometown Kankakee, Illinois to spend time with my mother who is my sunshine and the rest of my loving family in Kankakee.
